Congratulations on making the decision to become a PADI instructor. Please read this page before coming to PERHENTIAN to start your INSTRUCTOR DEVELOPMENT COURSE WITH ANTI GRAVITY DIVERS.
DIVER MEDICAL
You will need to bring with you a physical or scanned copy of a diver medical form filled out and signed by a physician stating that you are fit to dive. You can download the standard PADI medical form and take it to your physician.
If you have a signed diver medical from your DM course, this can still be used if it is dated within 12 months of the Instructor Examination date.

equipment requirements
Please make sure that you have all the standard diver equipment (as per the general standards in the Instructor Manual), PLUS:
- A time-monitoring device
- A compass
- A knife / cutting device
- A whistle
- A DSMB
- A dive computer
EFR certification within 24 months & non-renewed DM certification:
If your EFR (or equivalent) certification has lapsed past the 24-month cut-off time, you can still attend the IDC. We will combine your EFR renewal with the EFR instructor course. You will have to pay an additional RM250 for the EFR renewal certification.
The good news is that you do not need to renew your DM to active status if it has already lapsed.

Non-PADI certifications
If any of your previous certifications (OW, AOW, EFR, Rescue, DM) have been completed with other organizations besides PADI, please make sure that you can provide electronic proof of these certifications.
PADI IDC Prerequisites
Honestly... to be a good and successful PADI Instructor you MUST have good ATTITUDE and be an empathetic person. On top of that you also need to:
- Be a certified PADI Divemaster or hold a leadership level certification with another recreational diver training organization.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be fit for diving and submit a Medical Statement for a diving medical examination conducted within 12 months. A licensed physician must sign the form and state that the candidate is fit for diving. The physician signing the form may not be the applicant.
- Have been a certified diver for at least 6 months and have completed and logged at least 60 open water scuba dives (as documented in the individual logbook) and have documentation of experience in deep, night and navigation diving.
- Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within 24 months.
- Submit documentation of any equivalent certification for entry-level, advanced, rescue and leadership-level issued by another recreational diver training organization (PADI members who have these records on file at PADI do not need to re-submit).
- If not a PADI Divemaster, successfully complete the PADI Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment (can be done during the IDC).
